The Americas: Storage Coming of Age in Latin America – Special Focus on Mexico.

During ESNA’s 2017 Global Grid Transformation Roundtable on Mexico, CRE Chairman Guillermo Alcocer and Commissioner Marcelino Madrigal proposed to implement energy storage as a multi-use transmission asset. What steps has Mexico undertaken in the last year to advance energy storage as part of its power sector toolkit. What challenges have been encountered, and what efforts are underway? How will storage be incorporated into future renewable energy auctions, if at all? What solutions from global markets could Mexico adopt to jump-start new services & value streams?
How can the World Bank’s $1B energy storage fund help accelerate progress? How can interested stakeholders access this funding? What are the future prospects for storage applications and deployments in Mexico? What will progress in Mexico mean for other countries in Latin America?

Target Audience: Storage and renewable energy project developers, investors and regulators, market operators.

Audience Take-Aways: Understand key issues related to various regionals and implications for other markets.

Wholesale Market Design Global Best Practices

Wholesale Market Design Global Best Practices

Join practitioners from multiple countries to discuss what market design elements work best to promote energy storage and where improvements are necessary. This interactive session will seek to answer the following questions:
• What types of rules are wholesale market operators likely to develop for integrating and compensating storage resources?
• What additional value streams should be considered?
• What wholesale market design lessons could be learned from Europe, Australia, or markets in the Americas?
• How will future markets and rules change, as power grids evolve with increasing amounts of renewables, electric vehicles, and other assets on both sides of the meter?

Target Audience: Grid-scale storage and renewable energy project developers, investors and regulators, market operators.

Audience Take-Aways: Integrate knowledge of best practices from energy storage projects across the globe.
